The two stories iam exhalation to compare are Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck in 1937 and The Ostler written by Wilkie Collins in 1985.For this assignment I am going to compare and contrast the themes andlanguages of two poems. The two poems I am going to describe are overagedFather written by Hugh bosun and Island Man by Grace Nicholas.Old Father is ab by a legitimate immigrant who lives in England in thewinter of 1959. The poem is written in a West-Indian dialect. The poemis about a menacing man who denies his roots and wants to stimulate like aWhite Man. He does this by acting like them for representative he wearswhite clothes similarly he likes it in England and to ride out there.Island Man is about a reliable immigrant who lives in Neasdon, incapital of the United Kingdom. He has a dream about waking up in his consume land in theCaribbean Sea, hearing the sound of the sea. This immigrant does nonlike London and prefers existing back home in the Caribbean. The poem iswritten in one long dialect.There is only one similarity in the theme of both poems. They both arepoems about a certain person who is different to society. Old Fatheris about a sable man living in England denying his rootsThat dont like serving filthy plurality.This emphasises that, he has changed into someone different, someonewho he is non. It also suggests that he is try to impersonate awhite man. Another way he does this, is by offend black peopleAnd he crack joke with them white people on we.This suggests that he is showing them that he is not a black man. Hemay look like one, but in his have mind he is not. In my opinion, Iwould say he loves living in London. However, we have no evidence whyhe does not go back to the Caribbean.There are also a serial publication of differences between the two poems in thethemes between the two poems. In Old Father we realise that he lovesEnglandHis roots have no meat now. So he likes it in England and doesnt want to leave En gland. He hasalso forgotten who he is. He is trying to be like the White Man, notthe black man that he really is. We also see that he has changed intosomeone differentColoured girls no good for he.This shows that he has only changed into someone different, as heis coloured and not going out with coloured girls.
